Roles of Male and Female"s Health Habits and Social Relationship on Quality of Life: A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract
This study aims to investigate how health habits and level of social relationship related to quality of life in order to provide valuable information for people"s health promotion and further studies.
The participants were 1,248 people lived Seoul and suburb, whose ages ranged from 20 to 86 (M =46.97, SD =12.92). Like Alameda County study, researchers surveyed and analysed seven health habit, including getting adequate sleep, eating breakfast regularly, avoiding snacking, not smoking, limiting alcohol consumption, regularly participating in physical activity, and maintaining a health weight, and level of social relationship.
There were gender differences in four health habits and level social relationship, and age differences in six health habits and level social relationship. Results revealed that people getting adequate sleep had high quality of life, both in physical and mental aspects. People eating breakfast regularly or avoiding snacking less experienced stress in daily life. Non-smokers showed higher subjective well-being and had fewer diseases or disorders than smoker, while people abstinent from alcohol consumption were living less stressful life with higher subjective well-being. People regularly participating in physical activity less experienced stress in daily life with higher level of subjective well-being and health. People maintaining adequate weight living less stressful life, while people with overweight had more diseases or disorders than those who were maintaining adequate weight. People maintaining appropriate were living less stressful life with higher subjective well-being.
With limitation of cross-sectional study, this study reiterates the important roles of health habits and social relationship on quality of life, and suggests the useful information for further studies after exploring how health habits and social relationship related to each variables of quality of life.
